Geminid

One thing I love about homeschooling is that we can do things at odd hours. Even really really late at night. A few weeks ago we took advantage of this fact and went out to see the Geminid Meteor Shower.
The boys bundled up with blankets, pulled some chairs out from the back deck and hunkered down for about an hour. Oh yeah, they brought snacks too.
They loved it! They saw at least 15 meteors while they were out there. And they got along with each other the whole time!!

I stole these pictures (shhh!) to share some images of what it looked like. Because really - I had to share some pictures. The meteors were so bright and plentiful - it was quite a display. I wish I had a super fantastic camera and the time to use it - then I wouldn't have to steal images from these guys.

The kids stayed out in the cold for at least an hour. When they came in they were full of "Oh Wow!" and "Awesome!" Usually those are words reserved for Bakugan or Nintendo. Gotta love an educational experience that elicits exclamatory remarks from a teenager and preteen. Homeschooling definitely has its perks!

Even Miss Princess came out to see what all the excitement was about. I don't think she saw any of the meteor shower - she was too busy chatting about her boots. And her hat. And the shrub at the end of the driveway. She has a lot to say. Oh well, maybe we can get her to look up at the sky next time.
